Direct from Royal Duty in the United Kingdom, the famous Pipes & Drums - 1st Battalion Scots Guards will be featured at the 144th Scottish Highland Gathering & Games. The Scots Guards will be making their only west coast appearance. They last performed in Pleasanton in 2002.Steeped in history, the Royal Regiment of Scots Guards were formed in 1642 as the personal body guards for the King of England, Charles I. Their colorful and intricate uniforms set them apart from other regiments that also patrol BuckinghamPalace. One of the most anticipated aspects at the games is the marshalling of both the Scots Guards and the U.S. Marine Corps bands in mixed formation, playing simultaneously in concert in front of the grandstands both days of the Games. The Pleasanton venue is one the few in the world that marshals both British and American bands together in concert.
